About Me

My photo
My name is Kaye and I am 58 years old. Unbelievably to me, at my age, I have now just embarked upon my third career - as a History Education Consultant! I love to cross stitch and quilt, especially with my kittens, Furio and Milo "helping" me. I also love to read, I have a passion for history and I have been cooking since I was about 12 - move over Junior Masterchef! So, this blog, which started out as a cross stitch blog sometimes morphs into a reading journal or a history lesson (sorry, I used to be a secondary teacher before I became a publisher and now a consultant) or a post about my cooking mojo. Whatever it is, this blog is alway about me, my family and my life here in Eaglemont, Victoria. I have been happily married for over 30 years to the most wonderful man and we are blessed with three beautiful grown up children.

IHSW - a great success!

[Sorry that this post is late but it has taken me four days to get the photos onto the post.  For some reason iPhoto and my camera are not talking to each other, so I have had to find a roundabout way to get my photos onto blogger.]

Well, I hibernated all weekend after having such a busy week at the conference and, lucky for me, this coincided with IHSW!  Yay!  Great motivation and I actually had 11 finishes!  Yes, count them  - 11! Now, these are all of varying degrees of work required but nevertheless, I am very pleased with what I achieved this past weekend.  Would you like to see?

Finishes 1 to 4:

I finished four pom pom scissors fobs - I had great fun choosing which buttons to use as I searched through my Grandmother's button tin.  Do you like the lid?  It is a scene of the city of Melbourne - probably from the 1950s, you can tell if you look closely at the cars.

Last time you saw these pom poms they looked like this:

Now they are four beautiful scissors fobs - which are going to be sent away to bloggy friends around the world:

Side 1
Side 2
Finish 5:

I finally finished the Summer Garden Travelling Pattern!  It has taken a while as it was literally a Travelling Pattern as I stitched it on the train to work!  It also took a while as I had to stitch the border four times!!!!!  That frog prince has a lot to answer for!

Now, I have stitched my version with much more colour than the suggested pattern, so I have opted for a plainer border with not leaves or flowers in the corner. I hope that you all like my choice:

Needless to say, I am very pleased with my finish on this piece.

Finishes 6 and 7:

Now there are four - I finished two more little bunnies:

I think that I am done with Little Bunnies now (four may be enough!) - so watch out for a post about sending this Travelling Pattern on.

Finishes 8, 9 and 10:

I am going to either finish the Little Bunnies as needle books or as flat finish ornaments.  Either way they need a back  - so, as I want to give some of these away as gifts, I stitched some initials for the back:

Finish 11:
You may remember that the other week I finished stitching Birdhouse Alphabet, well during IHSW I fully finished it as a cushion, I am very pleased with the result.  This cushion will be sent off to a stitchy friend, too.

So, that is all from me for now.

love to you all,

P.S. I have so much more I want to post about so please come back for a visit soon.

Computer issues

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I have not disappeared off the face of the earth after my conference last week - it is just that my camera and iphoto have stopped talking to each other for some unknown reason!  This means that I am having to use a roundabout way to get my photos onto my posts.  I do have lots to share, so please watch this space for further, far more interesting, posts.

Love to you all,

Belated announcement: The Winners!

Yes, I am a bit slow, I know but my busy life just seems to get in the way of my blogging sometimes!!!!!  But without further ado, the winners are:

Overseas Winner:

Noemi from Wagapapa Creations.  Congratulations, Noemi, you must have the luck of the Irish because I think that this is about the 3rd or 4th of my Giveaways that you have won! I am pretty sure that I already have your address but I will email you to let you know that you have won.  This is what you have won, but there is one more element to come - which has to do with the pom poms on my last pic of the post.  An Aussie handtowel, a needle book made by me and a little book of affirmations.

Australian Winner is Christine M of MacDonald's Patch, You have also won an Aussie handtowel, a needle book made by me and a little book of affirmations.  But, there is also a pom pom related gift to come!  Christine, I am not sure that I have your snailmail address, so please email me on KayeDeP@gmail.com and let me know what it is.

Noemi and Christine, I am about to leave for a conference so I won't have time to finish off the final items for your packages this week so I will post next Monday - sorry about the delay.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all of you lovely bloggers who entered my giveaway.  Keep an eye on my blog - there may be another one soon!

Now, onto some stitchy progress.  Here is my before photo of The Faerie Queene:

... and this is what I managed to get done yesterday ... I am pretty pleased with how it is coming along.

... and here is my February TUSAL - this mont's ORTs include lots from my Travelling Pattern - Summer Garden (the dark pinks) and lots of blues from the needle books I have been making.

Lastly, I bought a "flat" pom pom maker and I have made these little pom poms which I am going to make into scissor fobs.  With the Clover pom pom maker tool - it is so fun and easy!

Well, that is me for now, I am off to a conference this week (in Melbourne) but I still get to stay at the Grand Hyatt - lovely.  However, these conferences are very busy, so I will probably be off line for most of the week.

P.S. I just received an overseas package from Sarah in Stitches - I won her giveaway.  No time to even open it now as I am about to leave for the conference but thank you so much, Sarah.

Initial Heart Swap

I took part in Cheryll's Initial Heart swap and I was lucky enough to receive these lovely gifts from Illene.  Isn't the angel heart gorgeous?

Lots of lovely bits and pieces.

... and this is what I sent to Sharon

I think that everyone who took part in the swap was very happy.  Thanks to Cheryll for being such a chilled out SwapMama (and so well organised, too).

Two little bunnies.....

The other day I was lucky enough to receive this sweet little bunny pattern from Cucki which is a Travelling Pattern started by Grace, and so far has been stitched by Leila (no blog) as well.  After me, it is going to Chiara, where the little bunny travels to after Italy I am not sure.  It is a lovely stitch to make and so quick that I have made two already and am planning a third.

The package arrived with lots of goodies for us to share.  Each stitcher has added threads, beads, ribbons and fabbie for the others to choose from to enhance the stitching.  I look forward to adding my bibs and bobs before I send it on:

... and here are my two bunnies side by side.....

.... and some close ups - each bunny is slightly different....

I think that I am going to make them into needle books (now that I have mastered that technique) or maybe one needle book and one scissor fob.  Who knows?  I definitely know that a third little bunny is going to join the family.

Thanks to Grace for sending out Little Bunny into the world.
